Wind Turbines of Today

Wind turbines at ground level produce at a rate of 20-25%, but when placed at altitudes from 600-1000 feet, energy output can double. Ottawa-based Magenn Power is in the prototype stages of the world’s first floating wind turbine.

The Magenn Air Rotor System or MARS is a stationary blimp kept afloat with helium and tethered into place on an electrical grid. Centrifugal blades on the MARS can generate up to several megawatts of clean, renewable energy at a price well below our current grounded wind turbines.

Moon Over Ottawa

Tonight, I was out in the field for the first time this spring. Had an amazing time watching the stars again. Crisp and cold with no mosquitoes. It was perfect. The photo was taken a while ago in front of my appartment.

Flying orange orb witnessed by two women in New Brunswick

Summary: It was a clear, cold early February morning when Amy Wilbur saw a flying orange orb in the sky. “It was a round orange ball in the sky hovering across the road and field to the west in front of our house,” she said. “It was bright and light orange, the edges even brighter, a red-orange.” The orange ball moved very slowly, downward and diagonally, said Wilbur.

More sightings of Grantham UFO

Pretty cool sighting.
Friday, 3.30pm – A UFO seen repeatedly in the Great Gonerby area may also have been spotted in Ontario, Canada.
Dave P got in touch to say he saw a flying object on Tuesday night, and felt inspired to get in touch after reading about sightings in the Grantham area.

He said: “Last night my mom and I were about to drive out of the parking lot when I looked up and saw a white light just floating across the sky.

“It went across for a bit then just dimmed out. It was strange but cool.

“Also near it was an airplane, which often fly over my apartment, so I highly doubt it was a plane or helecopter.

“Not sure if it was a UFO but it sure was different!”

Have you seen a UFO? Have you encountered a starman waiting in the sky? Did he blow your mind? We want to hear from you: comment@granthamjournal.co.uk

A dangerous and growing concentration of power in the Prime Minister’s Office

OTTAWA — The former head of a federal inquiry into the sponsorship scandal has told members of Parliament that there is a dangerous and growing concentration of power in the Prime Minister’s Office.

The role of MPs in day-to-day decision-making has been diminished while the size and influence of PMO has grown, retired judge John Gomery said Thursday.

“It should be remembered that the political staff in the Prime Minister’s Office are not elected,” he told the government operations committee.

“They are not subject to any rules or laws of which I am aware, and they have the ear of the most important and powerful person in Canadian government.

“I suggest that this trend is a danger to Canadian democracy and leaves the door wide open to the kind of political interference in the day-to-day administration of government programs that led to what is commonly called the sponsorship scandal.”

Local British Columbia Council Passes Motion to Halt SPP

There ya go! This is how it’s done! Death to the SPP and NAU.

by Dana Gabriel

The Village of New Denver in southeastern British Columbia, Canada, has recently passed a motion to halt the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) of North America. The motion to stop the SPP is until such time as there is more parliamentary oversight and a democratic mandate from the people of Canada to further pursue this agenda of deeper integration.

The motion passed reads as such, “the Council of the Village of New Denver supports the position of Alex Atamanenko, MP, B.C. Southern Interior, in calling on the Federal Government of Canada to stop further implementation of the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America with the United States and Mexico until there is a democratic mandate from the people of Canada, Parliamentary oversight, and consideration of its profound consequences on Canada’s existence as a sovereign nation and its ability to adopt a autonomous and sustainable economic, social, and environmental policies, and urge the Government of Canada to conduct a transparent and accountable public debate of the SPP process, involving meaningful public consultation with civil society and full legislative review, including the work, recommendations and reports of all SPP working groups, and full debate and a vote in Parliament.”

Diving Into the Extra-terrestrial Phenomenon

(This is the first article of a unique serie)

Late in the evening, on a day of may 2006, I was arguing with my friend that he had never told me about the disclosure project. “I told you, but you wouldn’t listen…you didn’t want to waste time on this”. I didn’t even give him a chance to show me? This is typical people’s reaction to the first exposure on the subject. I was in the same boat and reacted exactly like people do now when they are exposed to the subject.

We were working on another Xbox title at the time. A good friend came over to my desk, and told me he had found something very interesting on Google Video. In need of a break, we both sat and started watching what would trigger a turning point in my life. I hear Jon Cypher introduce Dr. Steven Greer, still curious as to what my friend is showing me. This was the Disclosure Project National Press Club Conference video.

…We are here today, to disclose the truth about a subject that has been ridiculed, questioned, denied for at least 50 years…to the so called UFO matter and extra-terrestrial intelligence, can prove and will prove that we are not alone…

My jaw dropped, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I looked at my friend and said: “Is this true?”. He confirmed, saying this is the real deal. I watched the entire video, one witness after the other, almost in shock. This would be what would launch a lifetime pursuit for the truth.

From there, I began reading pretty much everything I found and watched every video I could about The Disclosure Project, CSETI, Steven Greer and all the witnesses that were present at the Disclosure Project National Press Club Conference. For days, all the spare time I had was to research. And slowly I was gathering knowledge that would lead me to take my first trip outside Canada. The destination was Mt. Shasta in California. There, I would met with Steven Greer, his team and some 30-40 people that were also looking to get some answers.

It was not an easy decision to make, as people would realize, those expeditions at first might seem costly. Costly trip, lodging and the training fee. At the time, I realized that I was taking a risk to spend a large sum of money and might come back without any answers to my questions. A risk that paid off, as you will see in my next articles.

So I went prepared, unlike some other people that were present that week of September 2006. I read through the entire Training kit, listened to all the CD’s and read : “Hidden Truth – Forbidden Knowledge”. I could hardly sleep for 4 days, as my understanding of this world shifted into the reality of covert operations, corrupted agents, corporate operations without any kind of oversight. Things wouldn’t be simple anymore. I couldn’t just sit in front of my computer days and nights. For the good of my sons and the children of this planet, I had to Act!

The first step would be to head to the training, learn what I could and see from there what would be the next step. I can tell you, a week long of lectures, remote view exercises, and field work was just amazing. I shared room with 3 guys, that quickly became friends. Two of them were from Vancouver, a Father and Son. Luckily, I got in touch with him before leaving Ottawa and was able to get some crucial information before heading to California. He gave me some insights on gear, and he also told me what he had experienced just a year ago, at the same spot, with CSETI. This was his 2nd trip with CSETI I believe.

I also connected with a young guy from Ireland and we touch base on occasions. Another man that was with us is a crop circle and consciousness specialist from Denmark. Amazing guy, with an amazing spirit. Had the best time I had in a long time with all of them. One gentleman from the U.S. also offered to share car rental, so he picked up us in Redding. I’ve stayed in contact with him ever since.

(In the next article, I’ll give details on my first CSETI expedition experience.)

Canada’s secret war in Iraq

Well, I admit, I have been fooled into thinking we didn’t do much in Iraq war.
Read the following article about Canada’s participation in the Iraq War.

Richard Sanders

How easy it is to make people believe a lie, and how hard it is to undo that work again! – Mark Twain

On March 25, 2003, during the “shock and awe” bombardment of Iraq, then US Ambassador Paul Cellucci admitted that “… ironically, Canadian naval vessels, aircraft and personnel… will supply more support to this war in Iraq indirectly… than most of those 46 countries that are fully supporting our efforts there.”

Cellucci merely scratched the surface of Canada’s initial “support” for the Iraq War, but he had let the cat out of the bag. As then Secretary of State Colin Powell had explained a week earlier, “We now have a coalition of the willing… who have publicly said they could be included in such a listing…. And there are 15 other nations, who, for one reason or another, do not wish to be publicly named but will be supporting the coalition.”

Canada was, and still is, the leading member of this secret group, which we could perhaps call CW-HUSH, the “Coalition of the Willing to Help but Unwilling to be Seen Helping.” The plan worked. Most Canadians still proudly believe that their government refused to join the Iraq War. Nothing could be further from the truth. Here are some of the ways in which we joined the fray:
Escorting the US Navy: Thirteen hundred Canadian troops aboard Canada’s multibillion dollar warships escorted the US fleet through the Persian Gulf, putting them safely in place to bomb Iraq.

Leading the coalition Navy: Canadian Rear Admiral Roger Girouard was in charge of the war coalition’s fleet.

Providing war planners: At least two dozen Canadian war planners working at US Central Command in Florida were transferred to the Persian Gulf in early 2003 to help oversee the war’s complicated logistics.

Commanding the war: In 2004, Canadian Brigadier General Walt Natynczyk commanded 10 brigades totalling 35,000 troops. He was Second-in-Command of the entire Iraq War for that year. When Governor General Clarkson gave Natynczyk the Meritorious Service Cross, her office extolled his “pivotal role in the development of numerous plans and operations [which] resulted in a tremendous contribution… to Operation Iraqi Freedom, and… brought great credit to the Canadian Forces and to Canada.”

Helping coordinate the war: Canadian military personnel working aboard American E-3 Airborne Warning and Control System warplanes helped direct the electronic war by providing surveillance, command, control and communications services to US war fighters.

Providing airspace and refuelling: Countless US troop and equipment transport aircraft have flown over Canada, to and from the Iraq War, and many refuelled in Gander, Newfoundland.
Providing air transport: At least three Canadian CC-130 military transport planes were listed by US military to supply coalition forces during the Iraq War.

Freeing up US troops: Canada’s major role in Afghan war has freed up thousands of US troops for deployment to Iraq.

Providing ground troops: At least 35 Canadian soldiers were directly under US command, in an “exchange” capacity on the ground, participating in the invasion of Iraq.

Testing weapons and drones: Two types of cruise missiles (AGM-86 and -129) and the “Global Hawk” (RQ-4A) surveillance drone, used in Iraq, were tested over Canada.

Depleted uranium (DU) weapons: Canada is the world’s top exporter of uranium. Our government pretends that Canada’s uranium is sold for “peaceful” purposes only, but absolutely nothing is done to stop the US from using DU in their weapons. America’s A-10 Wart Hog warplanes have fired DU munitions in Yugoslavia, Afghanistan and Iraq, while each cruise missile contains three kgs of DU ballast. Providing RADARSAT data: Eagle Vision, a US Air Force mobile ground station, which controls Canada’s RADARSAT-1 satellite and downlinks its data, was used from the start of the Iraq War.

Diplomatic support: Former Prime Minister Jean Chrétien supported the “right” of the US to invade Iraq, although Kofi Annan said it was an illegal occupation. Chrétien criticized Canadian citizens who questioned the war, saying they provided comfort to Saddam Hussein.
Training Iraqi police: Canada has spent millions sending RCMP officers to Jordan to train tens of thousands of cadets for Iraq’s paramilitary police force.

Training Iraqi troops: High-level Canadian military personnel joined the “NATO Training Mission in Iraq” to “train the trainers” of Iraqi Security Forces who are on the leading edge of the US occupation. A Canadian colonel, under NATO command, was chief of staff at the Baghdad-based training mission. Canada was the leading donor to this centre, providing an initial $810 thousand.

Funding Iraq’s interior ministry: Canada provides advisors and financial support to this ministry, which has been caught running torture centres. Thousands of its officers have been withdrawn for corruption, and it has been accused of working with death squads that executed a thousand people per month in Baghdad alone in the summer of 2006.

Military exports: At least 100 Canadian companies sold parts and/or services for major weapons systems used in the Iraq War. Quebec’s SNC-TEC sold millions of bullets to the US military forces occupying Iraq. General Dynamics Canada, in London Ontario, sold hundreds of armoured vehicles to the US and Australia. Between October 2003 and November 2005, these troop transport vehicles logged over six million miles in Iraq. Winnipeg’s Bristol Aerospace sells cluster-bomb dispensing warheads used by US aircraft in Iraq.

Canada Pension Plan investments: Canadians are forced to invest their pension money in hundreds of military industries, including most of the world’s top 20 weapons producers, which are the leading prime contractors for virtually all the major weapons systems used in Iraq.

So the next time a proud fellow citizen tells you that Canada didn’t join the Iraq War, remind them of Mark Twain’s famous quip: “It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble. It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.”

10 MW EBM Working Prototype Ready to Go Commercial?

From http://freeenergynews.com/: Don Grant of South Shore Energy Generation in Ontario, Canada gives an update to the progress of Gamma Managers’ Energy by Motion (EBM) motor, saying a 10 MW production prototype exists and is for sale. (PESWiki; Jan. 3)

South Shore Energy Generation of Ontario, Canada is looking to purchase several 10 MW EBM generator units from Gamma Managers, and is interested in securing licensing rights for North America.

On Jan. 3, 2007, New Energy Congress member, Sterling D. Allan wrote:

I just got off the phone with Don Grant of South Shore Energy Generation in Ontario (in business 5 years). He said I could publish the following information.

He said that EBM has a 10 MW prototype running, which has been witnessed by at least 5 engineers in Budapest. They are in process of translating the blueprints into English ($25k), slated to be done in March 2008.

He said that McDonald Steel in Cambridge Ontario is contracted to manufacture the units. McDonald owns Tiger Cat. The units will take 10-13 months to manufacture.

The device is undergoing CSA approval, which is expected to be completed in March. The components going into the device are all CSA approved.

Don, who has been investigating EBM for 5 years, is scheduling to go in with 5 people this month to see the device; and he invited me to go as well (under NDA). The entourage will include 2 engineers, a lawyer, Don’s replacement contingency.

He said the device requires 5 MW to start up, and produces 10 MW continuous plus heat (e.g. could be used in conjunction with a greenhouse).

Don has two investors who have paid 25 mil. each, to purchase two 10 MW units (pending the outcome of their inspection in Jan). He is looking for two more investors, to buy two additional units.

He thinks he can get 28 cents/kw-h from Ontario Power Generation, which would give him a one year return on investment. He’s offering his investors a 20% return, plus 1% of the business for 5 years, which would probably come to around $3 million/year. If he goes off shore, he could get much more.

Ontario (http://www.energy.gov.on.ca/index.cfm?fuseaction=renewable.community) is paying 14 c/kw-h for wind, and 42 c/kw-h for solar.

Don owns a security company and a leasing company and a maintenance company, all of which he will put to use in installing the unit in an underground bunker.

The unit can run continuously except for two days of the year when it needs to be inspected. It carries a 40 year warranty.

The company is working on a 225 MW version.

ID Chip getting implemented in B.C.?

I can’t believe they are going forward with this project. Canadians, are sheep, it’s very sad. I wonder which of the elected people could help with this, probably none. Care more about their pockets than the population. We have to remember, they have a reputation and a career at stake, nothing is more important for them.
This is important for Canadians. I am reading information that BC is leading the way to this invasion of privacy and surveillance system by implementing a real I D act driver’s license soon in BC, and there is no political opposition from BC’s opposition MLA’s that I know of and no Non Governmental Organization mounting the ramparts. Other provincial governments are also proceeding . Here we do see a concrete fruition of the implementation of the North American Union police state apparatus happening right under our noses.

Each of us Canadians must take our own stand within ourselves first to decide about our own compliance, and then find others and ways to defend since the organized structures are not going to do it for us or help us it appears, or in any way show any leadership in opposing this implementing stage of the NWO surveillance system. The official line of elected politicians is “It is not happening”, or “Join us and then it will stop” while they refuse to put their money where their mouth is if they even open it at all.

At least in the USA there are some States with elected politicians who will lead in the defense of liberty. In Canada we have none. That means as a people we are on our own. So go inside your own self and connect with your essence and take direction from yourself to connect with and be a part of the light. Then look around you for sympathetic others. We are not alone!

Canada Launches Clean Energy Software

Canada’s Environment Minister, the Honourable John Baird, and the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of Natural Resources, today officially launched the latest version of RETScreen, a software tool originally developed by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) for renewable energy technologies.

Minister Baird was joined in Indonesia by Ian Morton, one of Canada’s Eminent Advisors, founder of the Clean Air Foundation and Chief Executive Officer of Summerhill Group.

“Today’s announcement demonstrates how Canada is developing and sharing knowledge that allows Canadians and the global community to make cleaner energy choices,” said Minister Baird. “Renewable energy initiatives play a significant role in Canada’s fight against climate change, and RETScreen is helping to improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Canada and abroad.”

Well, at first, we thought this was just conspiracy theories, but now, it’s taking place, and the corporations have hardly no oppositions. Are we, the people, going to let these corporations suck dry our oil, water and wood?

Strange sky sights pick up

UFO reports near-triple average

By ROB NAY, SUN MEDIA

The night skies over Manitoba were apparently busier than usual last month.

Nearly triple the average number of UFO sightings were reported, according to Chris Rutkowski, research coordinator for Ufology Research of Manitoba, a Winnipeg-based independent centre that investigates and researches Canadian UFO sightings.

“It’s significantly above what we normally get,” said Rutkowski, adding 11 sightings in Manitoba were submitted in September.

The monthly average is about three or four, he said.

Ufology Research is concerned that most of the sightings were not reported to investigators in Manitoba but were instead submitted to websites around the globe.

That makes it difficult for researchers here to speak to witnesses, collect further information and potentially rule out objects as planets or stars instead of UFOs.

“Every year, it’s whittled down to about 3% to 5% that don’t have an easy explanation,” said Rutkowski.

Among the UFOs sightings reported last month, one came from a witness parked near Headingley about 2 a.m. on Sept. 10.

The man claims he heard a humming sound and then saw a light in the northern sky. He turned and saw a “floating disc” land in a field. Scared, he jumped in his car and drove away. In his rearview mirror, the witness said he saw the object rise from the ground and race across the sky before vanishing.

As for the rise in UFO sightings last month, Rutkowski said it’s possible there’s something out there or that “people are paying more attention to their surroundings.”

Rutkowski said anyone who observes a UFO can e-mail information to Manitoba investigators at canadianuforeport@hotmail.com.

5 Dim Lights In A Delta Or V Shape, Kanata, Ontario, Canada

Date: September 29, 2007
Time: Around 9:00 – 10:00 p.m.

Location of Sighting: Kanata, ON
Number of witnesses: 1
Number of objects: 7
Shape of objects: Small points of light, very dim.

Full Description of event/sighting: I was looking up at the sky last night, just looking at the stars and had just seen a small shooting star to the north. I looked straight up above my house and then after about 10 seconds, I saw 5 dim lights in a delta or “V” shape – almost like a flying wing shape in pattern – moving northeast to southwest in a straight line. I thought at first of a plane, but with the shape and distance of the lights it would have been a very low flying plane, and there was absolutely no sound. While I watched it, wondering what it was, I saw two more lights off to the left (south) of it, also moving in a straight line, side-by-side, angling slightly towards the first object. As I watched them, one of the lights to the left (the one closest) seemed to move closer to the V shaped lights very quickly (too quickly for conventional aircraft in my opinion) and then the other one also approached at a very high rate of speed. The two sets of lights seemed to fly beside each other for a moment, then the two extra lights swung in behind and joined the V formation just before the lights became too dim to and moved out of my line of sight.

If I hadn’t been looking in that exact spot at that exact time, I would never have seen them, the lights were so dim, like dim background stars. The fact that what I saw was silent, and the fact that the extra lights moved so quickly towards the other object, ruled out my initial thought of a large plane and fighter escort – plus there were no blinking running lights as a commuter or military jet would likely have (I assume that military jets have these lights over friendly territory?). A friend of mine suggested it might be a CP-140 Aurora, though nothing I have found on this aircraft suggests it would be in Ontario, or that it would fly completely silent as what I saw did. Also, looking at the shape of the wings on a CP-140, it is more of a reverse angle wing, and only slight at that. What I saw had more of the wing shape of a B2 bomber, but with a more obtuse angle.

I can usually manage to explain things I see at night, but this was something else entirely. I’ve never seen anything like it, and no explanation so far has satisfied all of the things I have seen.

Thanks for hosting this site and the information you share. It’s very interesting and informative!

Cheers!

A White Or Silver Sphere – Etobicoke, Ontario

Date: September 8, 2007
Time: Approx: 4:00 p.m.

Location of Sighting: Etobicoke, ON.
Number of witnesses: 2
Number of objects: 1
Shape of objects: Sphere.

Full Description of event/sighting: The photo was taken on Saturday, September 8th, at around 4:00pm, my wife and I had just sat down on a bench beside a parking lot in a shopping mall, when my eye caught a glint of a white or silver sphere moving from roughly north to south, in Etobicoke, (Toronto) ON, heading towards Lake Ontario.

When I had first spotted the object it was at a relatively low altitude, 1000 feet, perhaps 1km away from me, moving at a speed of perhaps 100km/h. It left no trail, and made no sound. My wife and I observed it for approx. 4 minutes in total. As it continued southward it slowly gained in altitude. I took several pictures with my cell phone that did not turn out, but my wife managed to take two photos that did turn out.

In the photos can be seen a bright sphere. It also seems to be casting a shadow on the clouds. The sun was roughly at out back at this time, we were facing east or south east while watching this object that eventually went out of view. I really regret not having our big camera with us that day.

Ontario is the new hotspot for UFO sightings: investigator

On track for ‘record-breaking year’

William Lin, The Ottawa Citizen
Published: Sunday, September 16, 2007

On Aug. 4, 1977, Paul Shishis was just a regular teenager working at a Scarborough grocery store.

But, it was no ordinary evening shift. He remembers that day well.

That Thursday night, he said, out in an adjacent open field, the 18-year-old saw what most people encounter only in science-fiction movies: a pear-shaped unidentified flying object with rotating multi-coloured lights in the night sky.

“I was dumbstruck with what I was witnessing,” Mr. Shishis said, now 48 and living in Oshawa.

Mr. Shishis’ experience is recorded alongside thousands of Canadian sightings, and the recent recounting of his story comes at a time when many continue to pose the elusive age-old question: Are we alone in the universe? This year marks the 60th anniversary of the crash landing in Roswell, New Mexico, where some believe the U.S. military covered up evidence of an alien craft. And this weekend, Edmonton’s TELUS World of Science, a respected museum complex, hosted a two-day UFO conference exploring the possibility of intelligent alien life.

For some, the possibility of alien beings visiting Earth is hard to swallow, the stuff of science fiction along the lines of the X-Files and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

But one independent Canadian UFO investigator said mysterious sightings in Ontario appear to be on the rise, with this year potentially seeing record numbers.

Brian Vike, who runs HBCC UFO Research from Houston, B.C, records Canadian incidents with the help of a British website.

They reported about 150 Ontario sightings so far this year up to the end of August out of a rough total of 300 in Canada.

Compare that with 188 Ontario sightings in all of 2006, according to another count that also includes Mr. Vike’s numbers, the Canadian UFO Survey, and the results could be surprising, he said.

“You’re going to have a record-breaking year, no doubt about it,” he said.

The Canadian UFO Survey is tabled by leading UFOlogists Chris Rutkowski, who spoke at the Edmonton conference, and Geoff Dittman, perhaps providing the clearest snapshot of Canadian sightings.

B.C. used to be the UFO magnet of Canada. According to last year’s survey, B.C. beat Ontario in sightings despite having a smaller population.

In 2002, B.C. logged 176 sightings. Ontario had 128. And the next year, it was even more lopsided: 304 to 150.

But, so far his year, up to the end of August, B.C. only has half of Ontario’s numbers, at 81 sightings, according to Mr. Vike.

Mr. Vike said he’s at a loss to explain it. He said several sightings were spotted near the Pickering nuclear plant.

“Is it something that’s attracting them? Is it something like the great bodies of water that you have?” After all, Mr. Shishis said he saw the UFO hover over what he believed to be Pickering that August night.

Ottawa is tied in eighth place in the number of municipal sightings with Edmonton and Burnaby, 12, according to the 2006 survey.

The No. 1 municipality attracting UFOs? Maidstone, Sask.

Whatever the reason for higher Ontario numbers, many experts say that Canada lacks a centralized database for sightings.

That means no accurate count exists.

“We really need to have a better way for people to report and making people aware of the proper channel of reporting these things. It would be great if there was a centralized thing,” said Frank Florian, director of space sciences at the TELUS World of Science.

“A lot of people who report these things don’t want to be labelled as quacks and things like that. They just want a question answered. Sometimes if you bring up the word ‘UFO,’ most people just kind of laugh or scoff at it,” he said.

And some don’t know where to turn to or are too embarrassed to say they saw a UFO.

“Most sightings don’t get reported. Its very hard to get a handle of what’s going on, because we don’t hear about most of the cases,” said Stanton Friedman, a former nuclear physicist who was the original civilian investigator for the Roswell incident.

Mr. Friedman, 73, at first blush doesn’t seem like a man who believes in UFOs. In fact, he’s never even seen one.

“I’ve never seen Tokyo. Do I have to see it to believe it’s there?” he asked rhetorically.

Mr. Friedman once worked as a nuclear physicist for engineering giants like General Electric, General Motors and McDonnell Douglas. He now calls New Brunswick home.

“I’m convinced the evidence is overwhelming that planet Earth is being visited by intelligently controlled extra-terrestrial spacecraft,” said Mr. Friedman, who was a guest speaker at the Edmonton conference. “We have sightings by scientist and by astronomers. There’s a tremendous amount of evidence out there.” Sometimes, the UFOs can be explained as the International Space Station, planes, even stars, Mr. Vike said.

“Let me tell you, we get hoaxes, lots of them. But you try to sort it out the best you can,” he said.

As for the Roswell incident, which he calls “cosmic Watergate,” Mr. Friedman believes the U.S. military did recover a flying saucer.

Asked if the truth about Roswell would someday be revealed, he said “if some major newsgroup would spend as much effort blowing the lid of the cosmic Watergate as the Washington Post did on the political Watergate, sure.”

An Extremely Bright Light – Ottawa, Ontario

Date: September 14, 2007
Time: 4:00 a.m.

Message: Hi Brian, I could not register on your site as the module was not working. I wanted to respond to an article regarding the light in the sky seen in Toronto. I too saw it. I work the graveyard-shift in Ottawa. During my breaks, I star gaze. At 4:00 am Friday morning, I went for lunch. An hour later I came back and there it was, a light in the sky I had never seen. The light was not there earlier. The light did not move nor did it change color, however, looking at the photos you posted, it appears to be the same light I saw. At first I thought it was Venus, but it was way too big.

Then I thought it could be the reflection of the space station, but I believe that was not due to appear that evening. I rushed home, all the while keeping an eye on the object and when I got home, I viewed it with some binoculars. It appeared to be very bright and not completely circular (almost). I left it at 6:00 a.m. to check the news and some websites for any info, but could not find anything. Until my friend stumbled upon this article. I am sorry to write you this way, but I wanted to let you know that there are others who saw this. My friends think I am nuts, but I don’t care. I saw what I saw and the fact that I cannot explain it makes me curious. I haven’t seen it since (Friday the 14th). I think I need to buy a camera.

UFO experts converge in Edmonton

Bill Mah, The Edmonton Journal

If you believe we are not alone, you’re not alone.

Once sneered at as the domain of Klingon-speaking sci-fi fans and fringe researchers, UFOs are invading the mainstream.

In Edmonton, the Telus World of Science is boldly going where the planetarium and science museum has never gone before. It’s hosting a two-day international conference on unidentified flying objects starting Sept. 14.

Officials at the former space sciences centre — now sponsored by a major telecommunications corporation — know the stigma surrounding flying saucers. But they felt it was worth the risk to its reputation to respond to enquiring minds about mysterious sights in the sky and ask “Who’s out there?”

“The science centre gets calls from people about what they see in the nighttime sky, or daytime sky for that matter, and some of them reported to us could be explained readily, but other things have been weird and couldn’t be explained with the usual rational explanations,” said Frank Florian, director of space sciences at the centre.

“What we want to do is open this up and see if there’s anything there. We don’t know.”

People who study possible alien encounters and call themselves “ufologists” welcome such serious scrutiny by a respected institution that usually showcases textbook science to tourists, families and school groups.

“I think Frank Florian has a lot of guts,” said Stanton Friedman, a nuclear physicist and original civilian researcher of the alleged spacecraft crash in Roswell, N.M.

He has been invited to speak at the science centre’s UFOs and Intelligent Life in the Universe: Who’s Out There conference.

Friedman, who has lectured since 1967 that flying saucers are real, says the scientific community and traditional news media are finally starting to treat the subject of extraterrestrials without smirking.

“There has been a change of attitude.”

He points to a Jan. 1 Chicago Tribune story reporting that about a dozen United Airlines workers witnessed a flying saucer hovering low over O’Hare International Airport before bolting upward into the clouds. The incident was picked up by other major news outlets such as CNN, National Public Radio, MSNBC and CBS.

“I believe the press realized that … gee, respectable people are interested in this, so there have been several stories this year that have gotten much more coverage than I believe they would otherwise have received,” Friedman said.

Opinion polls suggest one in 10 Canadians — some three million — have seen a UFO.

From 1994 to 2006, official reports of unidentified flying objects by Canadians have nearly quadrupled to 738 from 189. Internet UFO reporting sites provide convenience and anonymity for sighters like never before.

“We do get reports from literally all walks of life, from professionals and non-professionals. The stigma has gone,” said Chris Rutkowski, a UFO researcher and co-author of The Canadian UFO Report: The Best Cases Revealed.

In Alberta, UFO accounts hit an all-time high of 99 in 2004. That year, Rutkowski notes in his book that even the pilot of then prime minister Paul Martin’s jet witnessed a “very bright light falling from the sky … with smoke trailing” in southern Alberta and reported it to Edmonton International Airport authorities.

In 2005, Albertans reported 90 sightings and in 2006 there were 55. Rutkowski doesn’t know why the province is bucking the national growth trend.

“We do find that most UFO sightings throughout the course of the year do have possible explanations. Only a small percentage every year are what we call high-quality unknowns.”

Rutkowski thinks Paul Martin’s pilot, for example, saw a bit of blazing comet debris.

Jim Moroney, head of the Alberta UFO Study Group who will speak at the conference, believes UFO sightings signal the world is undergoing a process of contact by extraterrestrials and it’s vital for people to try to find out what their intentions are and what our response should be.

“The question has begun to really be asked much more seriously than it ever has in the past,” Moroney said.
