The Nexus II

This blog is dedicated to the extraterrestrial phenomena

Presidential Hopefuls, UFOs and ETs

Presidents and UFOs. It’s a subject long debated by serious UFO/Extraterrestrial researchers and one with quite a bit of history. For instance, a fleet of UFOs were seen flying over the nation’s capital, right over the White House at one point, back in 1952. Jimmy Carter claims to have seen a UFO, John F. Kennedy was supposedly assassinated over the issue of extraterrestrials according to some conspiracy theories, Bill Clinton spoke on the subject of Roswell in Belfast, Ireland, and Ronald Reagan even mentioned extraterrestrial life in several speeches.

And now we have New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson running for President. It was only a matter of time before a flying saucer would streak across his campaign path.

A few months ago, had you googled the words Bill Richardson and Roswell you most likely would have gotten matches pertaining to the Governor visiting the town, approving a project here and there, or the foreword he wrote to the book The Roswell Dig Diaries. Now google Bill Richardson and Roswell and you will likely get a bevy of blogs buzzing about his recent comments at a Round Rock, TX, Town Hall Meeting to look into the Roswell files if elected President.

At the town hall meeting a Dell employee asked Richardson about the Roswell Incident to which Richardson replied, “I’ve been in government a long time; I’ve been in the Cabinet; I’ve been in the Congress; and I’ve always felt that the government doesn’t tell the truth as much as it should on a lot of issues.”

The Governor continued to relate how when he was a member of Congress he asked the Department of Defense about any data they had on the Roswell Incident to which he was told the records were classified.

“That ticked me off,” Richardson said eliciting a laugh from the crowd.

Richardson then asked the Dell employee who had asked about Roswell if he would like him to open the Roswell files one day if elected. Of course the man said yes.

Richardson’s reply? “I’ll work with you on that.”

That rather brief and vague answer generated the news story which would eventually go on to carry the headline:

I’ll look into Roswell UFO files if elected president, Gov. Bill Richardson says

But, does anyone really believe Richardson would make any headway declassifying information even if he did manage to become President of the United States?

Stephen Basset, the head of X-PPAC (Extraterrestrial Phenomena Political Action Committee), thinks so. In an interview with Fox News Basset said he felt Bill Richardson and Hillary Clinton were the candidates with the best chances for bringing to light the truth behind the UFO cover-up.

Basset also said, “[Richardson] is, unequivocally, the leading candidate, in my opinion, for the Vice Presidential slot on the next democratic ticket.”

It’s also interesting to note that Basset made these comments before Richardson made his at Round Rock, TX.

Still, others remain skeptical of classified UFO information being declassified anytime soon.

Grant Cameron who runs presidentialufo.com doesn’t think Richardson is likely to win, and reminds people that Bill Clinton tried to look into the Roswell files as well to no avail. “If Bill as President couldn’t get it, Richardson has no chance.” said Cameron.

UFO columnist Leslie Gunter has similar thoughts. “I don’t believe he will get anything disclosed about UFOs, even if he was elected President. He may look into it, as he has promised, but he will either meet a dead end or be told a bit of the truth at which time he will clam up for National Security reasons.” said Gunter. “Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton were interested in UFOs, but none of them got the truth, or if they did they didn’t disclose it to the public. I don’t see Richardson being any different.”

Richardson’s campaign staff remains mum on his Roswell comments when asked. Blogger Billy Cox tried to get more information on the situation but Richardson staffer Max Feldman wrote to Cox that, “We don’t have a comment on this at this point.”

Ironically enough though it seems to be presidential hopeful Dennis Kucinich who’s getting the blunt of attention for UFOs. Kucinich, who claims to have seen a UFO over, of all places, Shirley MacLaine’s house nearly 25 years ago, was asked about the incident by Tim Russert at a Democratic presidential debate. After replying honestly about his sighting Kucinich would suffer a great deal of media ridicule about the subject from then on.

But a funny thing happened. Soon after that many other candidates were asked about the UFO issue. Barack Obama, luckily for him never having seen a UFO before, managed to slyly work his way out of the E.T. question. John McCain said he had never seen a UFO but, “I keep looking all the time.” And Rudy Giuliani answered an 8-year old girl who had asked about being invaded by evil aliens that the US would be prepared for anything that happened in the case of an alien invasion.

But in the end is the UFO question really a deciding factor in the 2008 election? And does anyone believe that any of the candidates take the UFO issue very seriously? Although Richardson’s comments may have gotten some excited and garnered plenty of speculation, he was more likely than not just catering to his audience in Round Rock, TX, like any normal politician would.

PRG – Hillary Clinton and the Rockefeller Initiative

Washington, DC – Today’s Washington Post has an article by Libby Copeland which mentions the work of Canadian researcher Grant Cameron in the context of requests to obtain documents from the Clinton presidential library relating to the UFO phenomenon.

The context for these Freedom of Information Act requests is the initiative by Laurance Rockefeller from March of 1993 through 1995 to persuade the new president to release all government documents pertaining to UFO phenomena to the public and effectively end a long standing truth embargo.

A comprehensive review of this initiative and other related developments during the Clinton administration can be found at: www.presidentialufo.com/clinton.htm

Rockefeller initially approached the executive Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) headed by Dr. John Gibbons. As the initiative unfolded Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton and key Clinton adviser, John Podesta, watched from the Oval Office but did not get directly involved.

Furthermore, President and Mrs. Clinton had private visits with Laurance Rockefeller at his ranch near Jackson Hole, Wyoming in 1994 and 1995. It is reasonably assumed they discussed the Initiative at this time.

We know this because of 900 pages of documents obtained by Grant Cameron from the OSTP via the Freedom of Information Act and from news articles relating to the Clintons’ private meetings with Rockefeller.

PRG will soon publish to the internet the relevant news articles and OSTP documents confirming the Rockefeller Initiative.

In light of recent questions posed to candidates Kucinich and Richardson regarding UFO phenomena, it is appropriate that candidate Clinton be asked about her views regarding the Rockefeller Initiative.

Presidential Debate Richardson and Kucinich on UFO.

What I found so fascinating and disturbing about the UFO flap during last week’s Democratic Presidential Debate in Philadelphia aside from Tim Russert’s predictable attempt to further marginalize and belittle Dennis Kucinich (especially considering Russert’s past powderpuff interviews with Cheney), was Russert’s oblique mainstream-media slapdown at what is one of the dominant themes of the 21st Century: the search for extraterrestrial life -a search that the combined governments of Europe, Asia, and North America are spending hundreds of $ billions to undertake.

Russert apparently was also unaware of the 2002 Roper Poll that showed approximately 70% of the American public believe the “Government does not tell everything it knows about UFOs and extraterrestrial life,” which lead us to the post-debate interview with Chris Mathews. In answering a follow up question to Russert’s grilling of Kucinich, Richardson pointed out to Mathews that while he doesn’t believe in UFO’s, he nevertheless pointed out that the US government has not disclosed the available documentation to make a final determination one way or the other. So Richardson confirmed that a government cover up of UFO documents is underway, and that he had personal experience of this while serving in government.

An incredulous Mathews asked Richardson, “Did you say the United States government is covering up a history of the UFO sighting in your state?” Richardson replied: “they [the government] don’t produce documents, Chris. They should just get it all out, and there’s a known history about this.”

Whether the UFO government cover up becomes an election issue or not will be a very interesting development to observe. Still, the fact that Richardson is now on the record is significant for those that have been arguing such a cover up for decades.

What will be even more interesting is how Hillary Clinton will eventually respond to the UFO question given Bill’s earlier interest in it, and unconfirmed reports that she participated in a UFO briefing by Laurence Rockefeller in 1995.

In an earlier town hall meeting in Round Rock Texas, Richardson was asked whether he would pledge to release files on the Roswell UFO crash. He responded, “”I remember I had my constituents ask me. I was the congressman and I said, ‘Well, Department of Defense, Los Alamos labs, what is this? What is the data you have?’” Richardson said the official reply was: “Oh, it’s classified.” He said: “That ticked me off.”

It’s fascinating that questions by Tim Russert and Chris Matthews to democratic candidates on UFO’s has brought out into the Presidential election the issue of the possibility of extraterrestrial life. My own take on all this is that great quote from Hamlet:

“There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.”

Roswell incident not explained to Richardson’s satisfaction

ROUND ROCK, Texas — If he wins his bid for the White House, Democratic presidential candidate Bill Richardson may be just the man to get to the bottom of the 60-year-old Roswell UFO mystery.

Answering questions at a townhall meeting Friday, a Dell employee asked Richardson about the 1947 incident in which many people still believe a flying saucer landed near the eastern New Mexico town.

“I’ve been in government a long time, I’ve been in the cabinet, I’ve been in the Congress and I’ve always felt that the government doesn’t tell the truth as much as it should on a lot of issues,” said Richardson, who is governor of New Mexico.

“When I was in Congress I said (to the) Department of Defense … ‘What is the data? What is the data you have?’ “

He was told that the records were classified.

“That ticked me off,” he said, as the crowd laughed.

“What do you want me to do? You want me to open up all those files?” he asked the alien enthusiast, who answered that he did.

“I’ll work with you on that.”

Roswell has become a Mecca for conspiracy theorists in the years since a July 8, 1947, press release sent from Roswell Army Air Base disclosed the recovery of “a flying disk” at a ranch near Roswell.

The next day, higher-ranking officers said the debris came from a weather balloon that crashed; authorities displayed some bits and pieces.

More than 30 years passed, and the incident was generally forgotten. But then, an Army officer who took part in the recovery of the debris came forward to assert that it had been from an alien spacecraft, and that the government had engaged in a cover-up.

Eventually, the Air Force disclosed it had been part of Project Mogul, a top-secret effort to monitor Soviet-era nuclear testing. But that story never satisfied believers who advanced tales of alien bodies recovered in the desert.

Clinton gains support from ‘Extraterrestrial Phenomenon XPAC’

“Is the government covering up the existence of aliens?” Fox News asked on the 60th anniversary of the 1947 incident in Roswell, New Mexico. Please more… vote for this if you like it, and subscribe to our channel. Thanks.

Fox then spoke to Stephen Bassett, executive director of of the Extraterrestrial Phenomenon Political Action Committee, which believes all the presidential candidates “need to speak to this issue.”

“I’ve had people inside government confirm the ET presence to me,” said Bassett, citing New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson as someone who has stated that the Roswell incident ought to be reinvestigated.

Bassett supports a Hillary Clinton-Bill Richardson ticket in 2008, because he believes the White House under Bill Clinton was aware of extraterrestrials. “This is serious business,” Bassett concluded.

Obviously Fox will turn this around to met their agenda, but nonetheless, Stephen Bassett, which has been involved in the ET disclosure process in the last 11 years, has a solid background in this field. Along with Dr. Steven Greer (www.DisclosureProject.org), they have a great change to get this out to the public.
